Three local families received quite the surprise yesterday afternoon, as Shell Oil partnered with The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command to provide them with over $500 in groceries each. It was part of a community outreach effort by the local Shell Oil, and the families selected were existing clients of the Army's social services office. It was truly a wonderful experience for everyone. |

The new 12,500 square-foot Garden City Boys & Girls Club facility is being built in the heart of Houston's underserved community known as Acres Home. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee and State Representative Sylvester Turner were among the crowd of well-wishers who joined Area Commander, Major Chris Flanagan and The Salvation Army Greater Houston Advisory Board members at the official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Garden City Boys & Girls Club. |

This week, instead of attending class, they have been sent on a mission to see what it would be like to work at a shelter full time. They chose The Salvation Army's shelter for women with families, Family Residence. I interview them about their experience four days in. |
