Salvation Army Houston JRT program graduate Lydia Ball-Arthur

Thanks to the first-of-its-kind Job Readiness Training (JRT) program, more than 1,000 Hurricane Katrina survivors in Houston will find it easier to connect with employers who need their skills. A bulk of survivors relocated to Houston after losing everything in the 2006 storm.

The program, a joint effort of The Salvation Army and National Business Services Alliance (NBSA), is equipping ‘new Houstonians’ with more than 70 different skill certifications through classes at the University of Houston, personal advising and targeted training.
