Angel Tree Program

The joy of giving.

For over 123 years, The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program has provided Christmas assistance for disadvantaged children and seniors in our community. Last year alone, thanks to the support of the Greater Houston region, over 36,000 individuals were positively impacted by The Salvation Army during the Christmas holiday season, in Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties. Our Angel Tree Program is one of the largest and longest-standing holiday gift-giving initiatives in the local region.

What is The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program?

For over 123 years, The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program has provided Christmas assistance for disadvantaged children and senior citizens in the greater Houston area. Through the Angel Tree program, donors can become personally involved because they are able to choose a specific child or senior to help. Last year, we were able to provide gifts to 30,074 children and seniors in Harris, Montgomery and Fort Bend counties. Once a child or senior has been registered as an “Angel,” The Salvation Army makes a promise that we will provide Christmas for that individual. The promise includes a variety of gifts for each child or senior. In order to accomplish this, The Salvation Army depends on the generosity of individual donors, corporations and organizations. Last year, 165 companies and organizations helped fulfill the gift requests of over 10,000 Angels. The remaining Angels were adopted from our Mall Angel Trees and also filled by volunteers at our Santa’s Secret Warehouse.

How does someone become a Salvation Army Angel?

Families in need can sign up for assistance at one of seven Salvation Army registration locations. They must meet the federal minimum poverty guidelines to qualify. We serve children ranging in age from infants to 12 years old and seniors that are 62 and older. The Salvation Army maintains the confidentiality of all program recipient.

How does it work?

Once Angels have been registered, Angel “tags” or ornaments are printed with that Angel’s name, age, gender, gift requests and a code number. Companies and organizations can participate in our Corporate Angel Tree program and adopt Angels to hang on a tree at their workplace, school or church. You can also visit one of six Houston area shopping malls and adopt a child or senior from one of our Mall Angel Trees. After the Angels’ gifts have been purchased, they are returned to The Salvation Army where they are sorted by their unique code numbers and distributed to the families.

How do I sign up to host an Angel Tree?

If you would like to host an Angel Tree at your workplace, school or church, simply fill out a Corporate Angel Tree registration form and turn it in by October 12. On the form, you can indicate how many Angels you would like to adopt and also select one of four training sessions available for you to attend. Once you have registered and receive your Angel Tree toolkit complete with your Angel tags, you will be ready to start your program. Some suggested ideas for displaying your Angels are:

• Hang Angels on your organization’s Christmas tree.

• Use garland to outline the shape of a Christmas tree and attach the Angels

• Use a bulletin board in your office or break room to display the Angels
