THE INTERN EXPERIENCE

    Introducing Vinnika Johnson

Public Relations/Marketing Intern - Summer 2006
Graduated May 2008 from Texas Southern University with a degree in Journalism

Internship Experience: "This was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The Salvation Army does so much to help those in need. Being part of the team was an honor. I got the opportunity to learn the history of The Salvation Army and visit some of their facilities. I worked on different projects and was happy that the work I was doing was helping others.  Being an intern here allowed me to realize the direction I would like to take my career and knowledge of how a non-profit organization operates."

Advice to Future Interns:  "Take pride in working here and be the best at what you do. Everyone can't experience a great internship like you will at The Salvation Army!"

Future Goals: My future goal is to continue school full-time and graduate May 2008. I plan on pursuing my Master's degree, work in Public Relations, and start my own non profit organization to help young girls!

Introducing Allison Bujnoch

PR/Marketing Intern - September 2005
Graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Advertising

Internship Experience: "A few days following Hurricane Katrina, The Salvation Army called on me to assist in their Public Relations department. I couldn't have asked for a better experience - I worked with a team of people that shared a passion for helping others, and devoted their lives to bringing hope to those in desperate situations. My duties included composing press releases and alerts for media coverage, coordinating media interviews with key personnel, and help manage volunteer schedules. But in addition to acquiring skills during my internship, it was at The Salvation Army where I learned the real meaning of team work. To this day, I consider myself very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with such amazing people - both volunteers and employees - and to help such courageous people restore their lives."

Advice to Future Interns: "If you have the opportunity to work for The Salvation Army, take it, and soak it in one day at a time!  You are truly fortunate."

Future Goals: "To pursue a career in public relations, and to return to volunteer at The Salvation Army!"

       Introducing Leigh Lyn Duong

PR/Marketing Intern - Summer 2005
Graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA in Marketing (Honors)

Internship Experience: "It's an honor to be a past intern there. I brag about it all the time. And I tell whomever that will listen that The Salvation Army is more than soup kitchens, family stores, and Christmastime bell-ringers. It's this huge organization full of people with huge hearts who work to help others."

Advice to Future Interns:  "Just learn all you can, it's a once a lifetime experience!"

Future Goals: My future goals include starting a new life as a wife and going to Law school. I am currently studying for my LSAT.

Introducing Andy Arismendi III

PR/Marketing Intern - Summer 2004
Graduated from Texas State University at San Marcos (Honors)

Internship Experience: "The Salvation Army was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had while being employed. Also, knowing that the work I was doing was helping spread the word to less fortunate people to help them get back on their feet, have a home, or even have a meal, was such a great feeling.  I enjoyed waking up everyday to go to work, meeting everyone in the development department, and working on all the different projects they had me do.  The Salvation Army taught me how to appreciate life and enjoy everyday to the fullest because you never know if/when life can take a turn for the worse, but if it does The Salvation Army is there to help pick you back up. I learned that work is not always about money, but about self-satisfaction. I loved it there."

Advice to Future Interns: "Enjoy and embrace this internship because I know from talking to other interns at the other non-profit facilities that they were jealous because their internship consisted of getting people coffee, making faxes, or not doing much of anything.  At The Salvation Army, you can learn so much stuff that is essential to being successful in the real world."

Future Goals: Well my initial goal after graduating was to obtain a marketing job which I have accomplished. I also plan on going to law school hopefully starting in 2007 to become a lawyer here and work on Intellectual Property (IP) matters
.
