When a natural
disaster or sudden catastrophe causes social and
personal chaos, The Salvation Army moves into action -
often minutes after the tragedy has occurred - to meet
the needs of the victims. The Army's first priority is
to meet the immediate needs of any victim or relief
worker at the disaster scene without discrimination by
supplying food, shelter and grief counseling.
How We
Serve:
The Salvation Army
self-contained mobile feeding units are a familiar sight
on the scene of any disaster. These "canteens," which
resemble United Parcel Service trucks, are equipped with
all the conveniences of a modern-day kitchen and are
operated by trained volunteers. They are an important
food source for victims and relief workers at the height
of an emergency. They can serve about 2,000 people a
day from a single unit. |
