The Salvation Army to Unveil First of its Kind “Drop-In Center” For Homeless Youth 
This year, The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command received $1 million in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to setup Permanent Supportive Housing for homeless young adults in the state.  


Expansion Continues For The Salvation Army's Sally's House 
Homeless women in Houston now have a new safe place to sleep at night.  This month, The Salvation Army will officially inaugurate its new wing at its homeless rehabilitation shelter for women, Sally's House when it hosts a ribbon cutting ceremony.  The project has been a labor of love for longtime director of the facility Gay McCurdy.

One Of The Country's Fastest Growing Corps To Get A New Permanent Facility 
Captains Stephen and Sujung Na are excited.  After years of serving Houston's southwest community and implementing one program after another, despite not having a permanent facility from which to serve, they are now getting ready to break ground on the construction of a new permanent building for their International Corps Community Center.

Over $100,000 In College Scholarships Awarded To Local Boys & Girls Clubs Members 
This past January Boys & Girls Club members of The Salvation Army received over $100,000 in scholarship awards from the very generous supporters of our annual Youth of the Year Scholarship Awards Contest.  Among the recipients of these educational funds were Daphne Mata, a senior from the Northwest Corps Community Center, and Kandace Cortez, from our Irvington Corps Community Center.

For just a couple of dollars a local fashionista on a budget could walk away with a handful or two of couture frocks and accessories from the likes of Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, and many more at The Salvation Army's upcoming Reflections on Style Boutique and Runway Show After Sale scheduled for April 17 to 20, 2013 in Houston.

Pizza! Pizza! Little Caesars Brought Their "Love Kitchen" To The Harbor Light Center 
Little Caesars' Love Kitchen pulled into our Harbor Light Center & Red Shield Lodge.  The big rig kitchen on wheels was there to serve "Hot-N-Ready" pizzas to rehabilitation clients of The Salvation Army and transient homeless men and women in the area.  Local Little Caesars franchise owners prepared and served the hot meals.  The Salvation Army worked with Little Caesars to serve as many pizzas as possible.
