No Child Was Left Behind
No one knew what to expect this year.  More people than ever had registered for Christmas assistance through The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command’s Angel Tree program at the end of 2009 – some 25 percent more than the year before to be exact.  At the same time donations continued to arrive in significantly lower numbers than in years past.  >>Read Story                      



 
Salvation Army Officer Gives Personal Account of Disaster Relief Efforts
The Salvation Army’s Major Kelly Ponstler, who is currently working in Haiti providing disaster relief, sent us a detailed, firsthand account of worker and volunteer efforts to distribute desperately needed food to thousands of displaced earthquake victims.  This gives a wonderfully personal insight into the everyday, ongoing work and small victories experienced by The Salvation Army team amidst trying to meet the overwhelming need of Haitians.  >>Read Story

Houston's Home Team Invites You to a Ball Game for a Good Cause
Last year, the First Annual Salvation Army Night at Minute Maid Park brought more than 100 area youth from The Salvation Army’s six local Boys & Girls Clubs to the Houston Astros’ home stadium.  Many of them were attending a live baseball game for the first time in their lives, thanks in large part to the generosity of Salvation Army supporters and Houstonians who sponsored their attendance.   >>Read Story

Local Youths Walk Away with over $26,000 in College Scholarships
Until she heard her name called out last Tuesday night at The Salvation Army’s Third Annual Youth of the Year Scholarship Awards and Presentation Dinner, Eliana Perez didn’t have any true higher education aspirations.  The high school student admits she wanted to go to college, but because of her family’s limited resources she had all but given up on her dreams.  >>Read Story
