Houston's home team invites you to a ball game for a good cause

At The Salvation Army's Night at Minute Maid Park on July 28th you can cheer on the Houston Astros as you support a worthy local organization

Last year, the First Annual Salvation Army Night at Minute Maid Park brought more than 100 area youth from The Salvation Army’s six local Boys & Girls Clubs to the Houston Astros’ home stadium.  Many of them were attending a live baseball game for the first time in their lives, thanks in large part to the generosity of Salvation Army supporters and Houstonians who sponsored their attendance.

Organizers hope this year, even more young people will be able to attend the second annual event.  For the cost of a regular ticket or tickets, individuals may attend or choose to sponsor the attendance of a local youth by purchasing tickets for the Wednesday, July 28, 2010 game against the Chicago Cubs.  Prices range from $10 to $32 for individual tickets and may be purchased online after February 22, 2010.

In the meantime questions, inquiries and ticket purchases may be directed to (713) 259-8314 or to Denise Furlough at (832) 201-8026.

“Something as simple as a baseball game can bring a lot of joy to children who don’t always get to participate in events like this,” says Major Chris Flanagan, Area Commander for The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command.  “In fact, some of the youth we bring with us reside with their mothers at our transitional living facility (Family Residence) in Midtown.”

Individuals or corporations who wish to attend themselves may support The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command by designating their purchase in support of the local nonprofit.  When doing so a portion of each ticket will be donated to The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army operates 17 area facilities in Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties that serve over 119,000 individuals annually.  Youth programs, senior services, social and financial aid, Christmas assistance, homeless shelter, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, disaster relief, and counseling are just a few of the services operated by The Salvation Army in the local region.
