Star Daniel Gibson to Partners With The Salvation Army Houston
For A Second Year To Feed Families For The Holidays
(Los Angeles, CA) – Former Cleveland Cavaliers star Daniel Gibson, The Salvation Army Greater
Houston Area, Communities in Schools of Houston, Inc. (CIS) and Houston Independent School
District will be partnering on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm to give away
hams to 50 families at Bastian Elementary in the South Park area of Houston.
This private event will provide one ham per family and promote a nutritious meal during
the holiday season. In addition, one family will be receiving a full meal for 6.
“I am proud to be from South Park and realize the importance of giving back to my community.
I am excited to work with The Salvation Army, CIS and HISD to provide meals for these
families during the holiday season,” said Gibson.
Families participating in the event are from The Salvation Army’s Houston Food Bank
program, which provides backpacks full of food for children to take home over the
weekend to address food instability in the home.
“We are excited that Daniel reached out to us again this year, in order to help him help his
old neighborhood of South Park,” said Major Chris Flanagan, Area Commander for The Salvation
Army Greater Houston Area Command. “Thanks to him, these families will have a wonderful
holiday season and The Salvation Army is proud and committed to making sure we meet the
growing needs of our community.”
“We are grateful for this wonderful gift Daniel Gibson is providing to our Bastian
Elementary families and for giving back to this community where he is from. He has
made many families very happy this holiday season!” said Toron Wooldridge, principal
of Bastian Elementary.
Communities in Schools of Houston (CIS) has served at-risk students in the Greater
Houston Area since 1979. CIS is a campus-based, nonprofit organization providing

34 years. We are grateful to partners such as the NBA’s Daniel Gibson and the Salvation
Army for giving back to the community and making the holidays extra special for our families.
Mr. Gibson and The Salvation Army’s actions are firmly stated in our mission
statement…surrounding students with a community of support and empowering them to achieve
in life,” said a statement from CIS.
